Day 6 of the 365 to 40 project. Trying my hand at using the telephoto lens more, something I don’t have a lot of experience with. Fortunately in our area we are lucky to have quite a few species of native birds, the most visually striking of which is the rainbow lorikeet. Despite their small stature they also manage to successfully bully birds many times their own size. We’ve witnessed a pair of rainbow lorikeets keep an entire flock of cockatoos at bay for nothing other than their apparent amusement.

Bonus image – in getting today’s shot I got this neat silhouette of the same bird which I converted to black & white. I was having a bit of a conundrum over which one to select for the photo of the day but opted for the colour one.
